Tucked deep into the Ozark National Forest near Chester, Arkansas, the Buckhorn ATV Trail System offers 60+ miles of rugged, free-to-ride trails. With a creek beach, waterfalls, and rock gardens, it's a destination unlike any other for ATV enthusiasts.
What Is Buckhorn?
Buckhorn is a network of trails on free-to-access public land in the Ozark National Forest. Riders can explore over 60 miles of trails ranging from beginner-friendly creek crossings to challenging rock gardens. Unlike paid OHV parks, Buckhorn is free, but that means you'll need to bring your own everything — fuel, water, and a basic map.
How to Get There
From Fayetteville, AR, head south on I-49 for about 30 minutes to Chester. From Bentonville or Bella Vista, plan on roughly 60 minutes. The trail system has multiple staging areas, but most riders use the parking area off Buckhorn Road just west of town.
What to Bring
Buckhorn is a backcountry trail system, so come prepared. Bring extra fuel (no stations on the trail), water, snacks, a paper map (cell service is unreliable), basic tools, and a full tank for your ATV. Helmets are required, eye protection is essential, and a buddy is a smart idea on the more challenging sections.
Best Time to Ride
Spring (April-June) and fall (September-November) are prime riding seasons. Summer brings heat and humidity, while winter trails can be muddy or impassable. Holiday weekends are busiest — go midweek for solitude.
